From now on, even an illiterate person can apply for a heavy license and also get a fixed license to drive a heavy vehicle by giving a driving test drive of the vehicle. Only 1400 heavy licenses have been issued in Rajkot in the last one year. The main reason for the low number of licenses being issued is that the drivers are not educated which is why they were not able to get a heavy license due to the rule of 8 books being mandatory till now, but now they will also be able to get a license by giving a test.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced the requirement to have a standard 8 pass for transport vehicle licenses and to open 2 lakh skill centers across the country. In which special driving training will be given to illiterate people to drive a transport vehicle.
